Resident Evil Re-Release

Capcom revealed today they will be bringing a few of the more recent games from the Resident Evil series to the current gen of PS4 and Xbox One, starting initially with Resident Evil 6. They're going to be re-releasing these to a set schedule with RE6 being released first on March 29, which seems a bit backwards to me considering its the latest installment in the numbered series. This will be followed by Resident Evil 5 in Summer and Resident Evil 4 in Autumn.

They've also included all the post release content in the Resident Evil 6 release as well, however only digital copies will be avaliable in the UK. What isn't confirmed however is if they are going to be receiving a HD Remaster or will be simple ports. If they are nothing but simple ports, then this whole release seems a bit poor to me. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE the entire Resident Evil series and they usually cannot put a foot wrong in my eyes. However releasing these games after they haven't really long come out (and Resident Evil 4 recently had a separate re-release with a HD version) and in such a backwards story fashion doesn't sit right with me.

I mean even the price tag isn't all that great at £15.99 per game. The games are all very cheap now to get on PS3 (with the exception of RE4 due to that being PS2/Gamecube) so this entire announcement is a bit of a disappointment to me. All that being said, it does look like they are gearing up to a bigger announcement further on this year with it being their 20th Anniversary. With the recent release of Resident Evil 0/1 HD Remaster, and the fact they are working on a complete remake of Resident Evil 2, who knows what they have lined up down the line. Maybe a new entry in the numbered series where we see the return of Rebecca Chambers or Billy Coen? Maybe the beloved secret agent Ada Wong gets her own game, which let's face it would be incredible!

That all being said, let's hope it's not more Umbrella Corps, because it looks terrible. Saying that I'm still going to go out and buy it, I'm easily pleased. What do you think of the news on the re-release of such recent games? Do you think it's a way to just milk a bit more money out of previous games without actually having improved anything, or do you think it's a good marketing strategy for whatever announcement they've got coming up? Let us know in the comments below!
